At Beyond Limits, our journey started among the stars. Founded in 2014, we were born out of a groundbreaking collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Caltech. Our mission was simple yet ambitious: to take the pioneering technologies developed for space exploration and apply them to the challenges faced by industries here on Earth.

Our story is deeply rooted in the extraordinary history of Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory—the birthplace of innovations designed for the harshest environments imaginable: outer space. JPL, managed by Caltech for NASA, was where some of the most advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies were created to guide spacecraft millions of miles from home. These AI systems were tasked with making decisions in real time, without the luxury of large data streams or human intervention. It was here that our Cognitive AI technology was born, tested, and proven on some of NASA’s most iconic missions.
The technology behind Beyond Limits is built on this NASA-Caltech legacy, using AI systems that powered deep space missions like the Mars Rovers and Voyager probes. When CEO AJ Abdallat and CTO Mark James—a NASA JPL veteran of over 20 years—envisioned Beyond Limits, they sought to create something truly unique: an AI that could not only process data but reason through problems like a human expert. Our Cognitive AI combines the advanced techniques of machine learning and deep learning with symbolic AI and human domain knowledge, creating a system that offers more than just insights.
